Residents from Balhousie Monkbarns care home in Arbroath had a fabulous visit to Stirling castle recently. The staff at the Castle couldn’t do enough for all of us, and they even gave us a wee present as we were leaving. The bundle comprised of two small pouches of shortbread biscuits, with a book on Stirling Castle’s history and a lovely postcard from staff wishing us a safe journey home.

Pat was extremely interested and excited about our visit as she really enjoys history. Whilst we were there the staff had a lot of role play going on and the residents got a chance to ask questions. Pat and Sheana had a few questions and interacted really well with the staff. They both expressed how interesting this part of the trip was. Pat even said she learned a few things that she didn’t know – and this from a bit of a history buff who always got 99% on history at school, so she was delighted. Don said that the day trip brought back a lot of memories from his days of teaching. The last time he was at Stirling castle was on a field trip with the school.

After the tour around the castle, we all went for a meal at Beefeaters in Springkerse, Stirling. The meal was greatly received as we were all famished after walking all day around the castle! The meal was a success as there was no plate left full. Then it was back on our journey back home.

It’s fair to say this trip was a valuable one, and a roaring success! Thanks to the staff, who were very obliging and thoughtful, and Oomph whom we worked with to arrange the trip.
