A rising culinary star from Balhousie Care Group has proved cream really does rise to the top as he is shortlisted for a local business award.

Ben Haddow, Head Chef at Balhousie Luncarty care home in Perthshire, has been shortlisted for a prestigious Business Star Award. He is a finalist for the Blackadders Employee of the Year award celebrating outstanding people who continuously go the extra mile to do their job well.

Ben began work at Luncarty as a domestic in the laundry team, before becoming a carer. He kept his cooking hobby to himself before impressing with his outstanding culinary skills. He is now Head Chef at the home and thriving in his role with many relatives requesting to eat with residents and sample his delicious dishes.

“Since Ben became our Head Chef our dining hall has become incredibly popular with many of our residents commenting that it’s like ‘going to a restaurant every day.’ Ben is incredibly passionate about delivering delicious nutritional meals to residents and regularly hosts taster sessions with residents to ensure food is served to their liking. His dedication to his work is outstanding and we are delighted he is receiving this well-deserved recognition.”

Balhousie Care Group has also been shortlisted for the Johnson Carmichael Chartered Accountants Business Growth Award which recognises businesses demonstrating strong business initiatives and sustained growth.

Hosted by Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, the Business Star Awards recognise and rewards the best local businesses across a variety of sectors who have helped to keep Perthshire at the forefront of Scottish business.

The winners will be announced at a black-tie awards ceremony at Crieff Hydro on Friday November 22, 2019.

Ben has also been shortlisted for a Scottish Care Award which celebrates the exceptional work of people across the care sector in Scotland. Shortlisted for the Emerging Talent Award which recognises an individual who is new to the role or has grown into their role to become a shining example to others, Ben will attend the final at a ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow on November 15, 2019.
