Our Balhousie Moyness care home celebrated National Relaxation Day last week by experimenting with some Namaste techniques.

Residents enjoyed being pampered for the day by Lynne McDowall, Well Being Co-ordinator, and Fiona Menzies, Senior Care Worker. The “m” technique hand massage was given to many residents, all of whom seemed to find the experience relaxing.  Along with hand massage, residents enjoyed sampling some foods such as pomegranate seeds, mango, jelly babies, chocolate buttons.

Residents were keen to join in with the fun and it’s fair to say that the ‘Namaste corner’ was a success for all who were lucky enough to experience it.  The benefits of using the Namaste techniques – which focus on sensory and hands-on care – were evident in the behaviour of residents; the techniques had a calming effect and reduced agitation.

Lynne said: “Working with each resident and allowing them to experience things by using their senses is a fun and beneficial way to promote person centred care.”
