BCG residents have shown their Olympic spirit and won gold in three different categories at this year’s Go4Gold competition, which took place across 20 care homes in the Perth and Kinross region.
BCG’s Luncarty care home scooped the top prize, earning the highest points – and a trophy – in the competition. Residents of BCG’s Dalnaglar care home, meanwhile, won Best Team Poster and jointly won Best Olympic Laurel Wreath alongside three fellow Crieff homes.
The challenge event, which has been running since 2012, was created to underline the importance of staying active in our advancing years. Residents enjoyed games ranging from football and netball to golf putting and beer pong. Staff and residents from each care home also created posters and wreaths reflecting this year’s Go4Gold theme of the Paris Olympics.
Karen Johnson, Managing Director at BCG, said:
“We are thrilled by both Luncarty and Dalnaglar’s wins at this year’s Go4Gold event and are doubly proud of what the residents have achieved, both collectively and individually. As the years advance we can all feel physical activity becoming more difficult, so this local incentive, to enjoy a little competitive sport, is a very special and valuable initiative.
“We want to celebrate the efforts of BCG’s North Inch, North Grove and Coupar Angus homes, and all the other homes who also took part. Congratulations to everyone on earning their certificates. Although the sports take part within the grounds of every home, it feels like there’s a real community spirit behind it.”
Louise Anderson, Home Manager at Luncarty, said:
“All the residents who took part in Go4Gold this year thoroughly enjoyed themselves, having great fun with the staff team in the process. The win is a massive boost for the home!”
Nicole Bradgate, Home Manager at Dalnaglar, told us:
“With no prior experience of Go4Gold, our new Activities Coordinator Daniella McPhail really ran with the idea this year. For our residents, this was a really engaging set of activities that they very much looked forward to and enjoyed throughout. I feel so proud of the team for winning these two categories. We’re over the moon!”
Go4Gold was organised by the Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) in partnership with Perth & Kinross Care Home Activity Network (CHAN), Scottish Care, Live Active Leisure, Paths for All, the third sector and local care homes.
