Residents from BCG’s Pitlochry care home were given a special invitation to see a sneak peek dress rehearsal of their local theatre’s latest production, The Sound of Music, last week.
Pitlochry Festival Theatre kindly opened its doors to Pauline and Margaret, who were accompanied by two staff members from the home for a wonderful afternoon of nostalgia and incredible song.
BCG and Pitlochry Festival Theatre have enjoyed a long-standing friendship for several years now. Recently, the theatre ran a storytelling session in the care home for all the residents – to make sure all those unable to travel could enjoy some theatrical fun – featuring Robin Simpson’s portrayal of Jack and the Beanstalk, to everyone’s delight.
A smash in its many incarnations – from the silver screen to stages all over the world – The Sound of Music is, of course, a joyous and heart-warming musical, set in Austria on the eve of World War II, and has become a timeless classic. It features infectious songs by Rodgers & Hammerstein, including ‘My Favorite Things’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘So Long, Farewell’, ‘Edelweiss’ and ‘Climb Ev’ry Mountain’.
Karen Johnson, Managing Director at BCG, said: “It has become a lovely annual tradition to have our residents enjoy a festive trip to the theatre and see the craft up close in their own home, thanks to our good friends at Pitlochry Festival Theatre. Community partnerships like these make for some special experiences and, for that, we are very thankful.”
Deborah Dickinson, Producer from Pitlochry Festival Theatre, said: “We’re always so pleased to welcome BCG’s residents and staff, and to give them special access like this. We’re glad our first audience agree that this particular production of The Sound of Music promises to be very special!”
The Sound of Music is now running at Pitlochry Festival Theatre until 22 December.
