Willowbank - resident cake making

After indulging in the King of Savouries last week with National Cheese Lover’s Day – this week Balhousie residents have quickly progressed to the Queen of Desserts and National Chocolate Cake Day!

At Balhousie Willowbank in Carnoustie they went for delicious Chocolate Crispy Cakes, while at Balhousie Lisden, in Kirriemuir, Sheena took to creating her own Chocolate Truffle Cakes. And at Balhousie Alastrean near Aboyne in Aberdeenshire, they were baking (and sampling) luscious Chocolate Brownies. Yum!

And can you believe, when crushing the cocoa bean to create powder was discovered, it was a very long time before chocolate was eaten as a solid snack, but mostly mixed as drink with water. In fact, even worse, it wasn’t even sweet!

Well , from all of us across Balhousie, we’d like to formally thank whoever first added sugar to chocolate and started the move towards chocolate and chocolate cakes!

And if we ever needed a reason, with over 40 National Chocolate-based Days over the year – including National Chocolate Covered Anything Day on December 16 – we can celebrate our love of the sweet stuff throughout the year!
