Blhouise Coupar Angus - Headway hat competition entrants

The saying is, ‘If you want to get ahead, get a hat!’ And that’s certainly the case for Balhousie Coupar Angus resident, Barry, whose hat design won him the first prize at the local Perth & Kinross Headway meeting.

Barry, with Lorna Menzies, Administrator at the Perthshire care home, have been going to Headway for a number of years. At it’s fortnightly meetings, they enjoy entertainment, talks, demonstrations. a wee cuppa and homemade cake treats. There’s also a raffle every week, summer outings and a Pantomime trip too.

Headway is the Brain Injury Association charity. Through its network of more than 125 groups and branches across the UK, it provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers.

Every second year members take part in a sponsored walk round the North Inch toraise funds. There’s also a chance to go away for the weekend. ‘BRAW’ – Best Relaxation and Activity weekend gives members the chance to take part in various activities, e.g. archery, orienteering, arts and crafts, mindfulness, to name but a few.  These activities are geared for people with disabilities and to show members that those interests and pursuits they thought were impossible, are actually possible.

As part of the charity’s Action for Brain Injury Week campaign this year, Headway ran their hat design competition. And Barry won with his entry of the Queen’s Corgi Hat.

Lorna and Barry are now looking forward to the next competition – of Summer Puddings, where they get to enjoy tasting all the delights of the entries. Yum!
