You could live in this picture postcard setting

Have you ever imagined living in a beautiful mansion in the sprawling Scottish countryside? This could be your reality and your home! Exciting career opportunities and ‘live-in’ free staff accommodation options at our Aberdeenshire care home go hand-in-hand.

Our beautiful care home, Alastrean House, sits amidst thousands of acres deep in Aberdeenshire – five miles from Aboyne and 30 miles from Aberdeen. Built in 1905 as a country retreat by Lord Aberdeen, it became an RAF Benevolent Fund home. Today, the stunning building has been remodelled in the vein of a luxury hotel, with the very best in fabrics, furniture and art. It sits in landscaped gardens with an adjoining golf course built by ‘Old’ Tom Morris, the pioneer of professional golf. It’s a setting as tranquil as you can get. Bonus: we are also offering relocation incentives to those moving to the area to work at Alastrean.

Build a lifestyle that suits you and your family

With three-bedroom detached houses averaging just over £200k, the cost of living in Aberdeenshire can provide people, from young families to city workers looking for an escape to the country, with the opportunity to build a fantastic life in a beautiful part of Scotland. The cost of living in rural Scotland offers you the best of both worlds with larger properties at your fingertips as well as city life less than an hour away.

Mountain biking anyone?

It’s not every job that you can ‘down tools’ and head off on a bike trail immediately. But Alastrean House is just steps away from some amazing trails.

Tarland Trails scores major brownie points from mountain bike enthusiasts. With three short downhill trails, rock drop-offs, berms and jumps, it has the added bonus of being completely free. This is a great experience for everyone from novices to experienced riders, single riders to families.

Bag a Munro (or 50)

Popular walks in and around the village of Tarland include Alastrean and Corrachtree Circular Walks and Drummy Woods. Prepare for some ancient settings (stone circles abound), fortifications, grouse moors and breathtaking views over the Cairngorms. As for the Cairngorms themselves, they boast more than 50 Munros (Scottish mountains with a summit of at least 3,000ft).

Find your own ‘Brigadoon’

If 3000 feet is a bit of a hike for you, there are plenty more walks and vistas to enjoy. Try the Muir of Dinnet, a nature reserve of woodland, lochs and rocks described by one recent visitor as “fairytale”. We couldn’t put it better ourselves.

Hello Hollywood

It’s really no wonder that the countryside surrounding Tarland is littered with film locations. The Queen, starring Helen Mirren, used Castle Fraser as one of its backdrops (and what a backdrop; it sports one of the largest towers in Scotland). Dunnottar Castle in Stonehaven was the dramatic setting of Elsinore Castle in Franco Zeffirelli’s adaption of Hamlet. Meanwhile, the makers of the Outlander series used no less than three local castles when shooting the popular series: Castle Fraser, Craigievar Castle and Drum Castle.

And say hello to a job with a difference

When you work at Alastrean House you get all of this plus one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll find – working for an award-winning team that puts people at the centre of the care we deliver.  From being a dementia ambassadors providing outstanding care plans to creating innovative dishes in the kitchen, there’s an array of job roles and development opportunities in one of the most challenging and inspiring sectors around.
