Leading care provider Balhousie Care Group has appointed former HC-One and Four Seasons Health Care director John Kirk as Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

A prominent and respected figure in the care home sector, John was most recently Managing Director of HC-One’s 56 Scottish care homes. John also serves as an Executive Director and Vice Chair at Scottish Care, the voice of the independent care sector across Scotland.

The newly created Deputy CEO position will see John, an expert in operations, growth and acquisition, help Balhousie Care Group grow and develop its portfolio, which features 26 elderly and specialist care facilities across six regions of Scotland. The group’s imminent plans include: new-build care homes in Callander, Dundee and Perth; extensions to two of its most popular care homes, Balhousie Moyness in Broughty Ferry and Balhousie Wheatlands in Bonnybridge; and an expansion of its supported living services in Coupar Angus, which operates under the specialist care brand ASC.

Jill Kerr, Group Chief Executive Officer for Balhousie Care Group, which is celebrating its 30th year in business, said: “Despite the instability of the last two years and the COVID-19 pandemic, Balhousie Care Group’s financial performance is strong and we remain committed to both expanding and enhancing our portfolio of care facilities. John has the right mix of operations, finance and business growth experience to help us achieve our goals and we are delighted to have him on board.”

John said: “I am proud to be joining a team of truly committed and talented staff at Balhousie Care Group and to help shape the company for its next 30 years in business, establishing Balhousie as the leader in its field in Scotland.”

John, who grew up in St Andrews and now lives in South Lanarkshire, worked in financial services before moving into the healthcare sector, joining Allied Healthcare in 2010. He became Managing Director of Four Seasons Health Care Group in 2014 and in 2018 took up the same role with HC-One.

About Balhousie Care Group

Balhousie Care Group was formed 30 years ago to fill a gap in quality residential care in North East Scotland. Today, with 26 homes in the area, it is one of the leading providers of care for the elderly in Scotland, providing care to over 900 residents.

Balhousie Care prides itself on its person-centred approach to care. Putting people right at the forefront of everything they do; it’s inclusive of everyone. They capture this philosophy through the roll out of ‘Together We’re Great’, an initiative which recognises the skills, talents, attributes and support areas for each and every person involved in the organisation. Together We’re Great aims to value individuality and promote excellence across the organisation.

A Participation Charter – a first-of-its-kind in the care home sector – commits to residents getting a bigger say than ever in the care they receive, from writing care home policies to recruiting staff.

Balhousie Care Group is the recipient of numerous awards. These include three Scottish Care Awards, 2019 Growth Business and 2018 Service Business of the Year at The Courier Business Awards, 2019 Growth Business of the Year Perthshire Chamber of Commerce STAR Award, and SME Scotland Business Man of the Year 2019 for Chairman Tony Banks.
