Balhousie Care Group has launched a Mental Health & Wellbeing Charter as it commits to creating a positive and safe working environment for everyone.

The Charter, launched to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week, was developed by the group’s People Services team with input from staff. It encourages people across the group’s 25 care homes and at its head office to be open about their mental health challenges.

Jamie Stewart, People Development Advisor with Balhousie Care Group, said: “Taking care of our people’s mental health and wellbeing is just as important in the workplace as having health and safety and first aid procedures in place. By championing wellbeing internally at Balhousie Care Group, and giving as much support as we can to our colleagues, we hope we can start seeing some of the stigma attached to mental health issues lifted for good.”

Among the Charter’s commitments are:

  • Promoting positive attitudes towards people with mental health issues;
  • Creating an annual Mental Health & Wellbeing strategy;
  • Creating an internal Wellbeing Champions programme so that Balhousie’s people can be supported by trained colleagues;
  • A Wellbeing Toolkit with tips to positive mental health and support from external resources.

The award-winning Balhousie Care Group has 25 care homes in the north east and central Scotland. The full Mental Health & Wellbeing Charter can be viewed here.
