Residents from Balhousie Luncarty care home have been scarecrow building ahead of the town’s much-anticipated annual scarecrow festival on Saturday 22nd September, which brings the local community together for the fun event every year.
Luncarty Scarecrow Festival is celebrated every September with over 80 Scarecrows set to make an appearance all around the town on the day. People from Luncarty and further afield are expected to try and visit all 80 scarecrows during the festival and all the proceeds will go to Luncarty Primary School.
The residents at Luncarty are looking forward to welcoming people on the day to visit the two scarecrows, which portray a man and woman doing a spot of gardening. The male scarecrow is equipped with a walking aid and the female is sitting down. The scarecrow scene has been created to emphasise the importance of supporting people with dementia, while allowing them to be as independent as possible.

“Luncarty Scarecrow Festival is a brilliant way to bring the community together and welcome them to our care home. We already do a great deal of work with the local nursery and we are excited to extend this further with the primary school. The day is sure to bring together an already tight-knit community, our home having a strong emphasis on inter-generational partnerships and being able to learn from one-another whether old or young. The residents are excited to socialise with the rest of the community and show-off their creations to the people of Luncarty”
