Care home residents benefit from outdoor living space upgrade.

At Balhousie Moyness care home, many of our residents really enjoy spending time in the beautiful gardens which surround their home. And with our recent garden upgrade project now almost complete, residents have been sunning themselves outdoors whenever possible.

Family and friends who visit Balhousie Moyness are also making full use of the sunshine and dry days, accompanying their loved ones out into the gardens to breathe in the fresh air as they enjoy the scents of the brightly coloured flowers and welcome their new garden decorations – including a quirky wishing well centre piece.

Lynne McDowall, Moyness Well Being Co-ordinator and Dementia Ambassador, said: “By utilising these beautiful gardens to their full potential and encouraging regular access to outdoor spaces, our residents benefit in so many ways.  These include lots of fresh air, Vitamin D from the sun and enjoying the sights, smells and sounds of the gardens.  All of these things can prove to have a dramatic, positive effect on each individual’s mental well-being as well as their physical health.”

Residents Ross and Tom recently participated in a game of hook the rings played out in the green area, where Tom discovered he had a natural talent for the game. Garden games are now a big part of our weekly activities programme, with many keen to take part in games such as garden bowling, outdoor skittles and giant card games.

We look forward to some warm and dry summer days where we can build upon residents’ wishes for their newly refurbished gardens, including afternoon garden teas and of course who needs an excuse to indulge in an ice-cream or a cold glass of Pimms on a hot day!
