Balhousie Care Group today thanked employees and the public for their “phenomenal” support for Sleep in the Park, resulting in a record number of participants and funds raised.

Balhousie Care Group, one of the event’s Top 12 sponsors, raised more than £16,000 for the charity Social Bite and had a record 186 people taking part – almost ten times the number who took part last year. Everyone from care assistants to senior executives bunked down for the night in sleeping bags at Dundee’s Slessor Gardens to raise awareness about homelessness in Scotland.

Balhousie Care’s fundraising contributions also included Gig Beside the Park, a live music event which took place before the mass participation sleep-out. Last year, 20 Balhousie Care Group employees took part in Sleep in the Park in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens.

Balhousie Care Group Chairman Tony Banks praised everyone’s participation in the Dundee event, one of four which took place in Scotland’s major cities earlier this month. The 25-strong care home group has homes across the north east of Scotland, including three in Dundee. Tony, a native of Dundee and Angus, said:

“The turnout and the support for this year’s Sleep in the Park was phenomenal, and I want to give a shout-out to all of the Balhousie Care Group employees, their friends and family members who helped raise awareness about homelessness and the work Social Bite is doing to address it. The fact that we did this on home turf this year made it all the more humbling for me personally.”
