A Purple Tea Party held at Balhousie Huntly care home in Aberdeenshire to mark Dementia Awareness week was a great success. To add to the celebration, attendees were treated to a visit from two members of the Scottish Rugby Team, who turned up to show off the Calcutta Cup!
Residents and their guests enjoyed an array of fine cakes and biscuits at the tea party, including cupcakes with icing and purple butterflies, shortbread and custard creams. Everyone who attended had a great afternoon and there were plenty of comments on how fine the pieces were. Although it wasn’t a fundraiser, the event raised £52 for Alzheimer Scotland. Thank you to all who contributed.
Tanya Smith, Activities Co-ordinator/ Dementia Ambassador, said: “The purple tea party has once again been a great success. This is an event which we host each year during Dementia Awareness week to raise awareness for dementia. It was lovely to see such a great turn out of friends and relatives, as well as residents. I would like thank the kitchen staff for making such lovely home bakes for the afternoon. Also thank you to all who came along and supported this event.”
The Calcutta Cup has been won by Scotland the last two years against England. The trophy was first contested at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh in 1879. The cup is played for annually between England and Scotland but only within the Six Nations Championship. It was gifted to England’s RFU by the Culcutta (Rugby) Football Club in India.
