BCG’s Rumbling Bridge nursing home in the glorious Crook of Devon has unveiled a new, state-of-the-art Sensory Room for the benefit of their residents.
The space is designed to provide a therapeutic experience that can reduce stress, promote well-being and generally improve mood, with soothing lights, calming sounds and tactile materials that help provide relaxation and sensory exploration.
It’s the latest asset to be unveiled at the specialist facility. Rumbling Bridge offers a spacious environment, purpose-built to meet the specific care needs of its residents, including adults with a Huntington’s disease diagnosis. The sensory room, fully devised and installed by the dedicated staff of the nursing home, is an achievement realised in just two months.
BCG Rumbling Bridge Activities Coordinator, Carol Young, said: “Once our team put their minds to a project, we are committed to seeing it through quickly and completely. We’re delighted to be able to offer this fantastic new space to our residents. It’s a place where they can gain a sense of calm and find stimulus that can be hard to come by in the everyday world. One of the benefits of sensory therapy is that it can reduce fears and enhance trust, further deepening the relationship we have with our residents.
“Under the supervision of our brilliant, innovative maintenance officer, Stewart Leslie, our team really pulled together to design and complete the project over these past few months. It has been lovely to see it being used – it’s a hit already!”
