On Thursday 27th December we hosted our annual Residents Awards ceremony which recognises and celebrates residents skills, talents and participation from throughout the year. It is a very special and much anticipated day in the Balhousie Huntly calendar. Our ladies and gents take great pride in getting themselves looking smart and dressed up for the event each year, ready to welcome their friends & families along to celebrate their achievements.
It is not unusual to witness residents become happily overwhelmed at the recognition they receive upon winning their awards. The joy that is shared celebrating with fellow residents, family and friends is priceless. This year one lady in particular became overwhelmed with tears of joy as she cheered on her friends who had won awards. Can you imagine the joy she felt when we presented her with her own winning award?!
Tanya Smith, activities co-coordinator and dementia ambassador told us:
“We have hosted these awards here at Huntly care home each year since 2014. Residents get so surprised and sometimes quite over whelmed upon winning. It’s just so lovely to see residents reactions and the joy it brings to them, it’s often brought a tear or two to my own eyes.”
Resident Rob Niven upon receiving this years Musician of the Year award said;
“It’s taken me 92 years to win something for playing the accordion and I couldn’t be happier.”
Awards were received for the following:
- Volunteer of the Year
- Reader of the Year
- Jimmy Harold Dancing Award
- Quiz Champion
- Knitter of the Year
New awards introduced in 2018 included:
- Musician of the Year
- Singer of the Year
A huge well done to all our wonderful winners!
