Dorothy Warren, a resident at our Stormont Lodge care home in Blairgowrie, turned 100 yesterday. To celebrate, family, fellow residents and staff gathered for birthday cake. She has had an extraordinary life and it’s fare to say she has broken the mold.
Born Dorothy Ann McNulty on July 29th, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she is a citizen of both Ireland and the United States.
She graduated from Germantown High School and was an engineering secretary with Brown Instrument corporation until she married Robert Warren, in 1945. Together they raised a family of three children and lived variously in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey; in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, and retired to Tucson, Arizona in 1984.
When her husband passed away, Dorothy moved with her elder daughter to Danville, Kentucky where she lived for more than twenty years. She later relocated to Strathtay, Scotland, again, to be near her daughter and extended family.
Dorothy is a devoted member of the Christian faith. In her youth she was a drum majorette, marching and twirling the baton in many municipal parades. She was also an athlete, playing baseball and, notably, a female boxer in a time when such things were unheard of. She’s an accomplished writer of both prose and poetry and a well-known baker in her community for years, supplying many with homemade bread, cakes and cookies. Dorothy also enjoys sewing and watercolour painting.
Above she’s pictured having a lovely moment with our Deputy Manager Dawn’s granddaughter, Violet. Happy centenary, Dorothy!
