MEDIA RELEASE: 11 July 2024
After much searching for the right candidate, leading care provider, BCG, has appointed Andrew Jackson as manager of its Pitlochry care home.
Andrew brings to the 50-bedroom home a wealth of all-round experience in the care sector, after many years managing and consulting for care homes and services, from Ullapool, to Torquay, to Gibraltar!
Originally from Tulloch in Perth, Andrew started his career with Capability Scotland. His passion for care convinced him to convert his knowledge into qualifications, studying a Bachelor’s degree in Health Studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). His aim, in gaining his BA, was to manage his own facility as the best way to influence the quality of service and make a difference to the care of older people, especially those with dementia. Andrew moved to Devon to do just that: primarily manage a nursing home, and then a care service.
Offered opportunities far further south, in Gibraltar, Andrew became involved in writing care policy and then moved to set up his own care company, based on the principle of person-centred care: enabling older adults to engage with people of all ages and the natural environment, to combat some of the main causes of suffering in old age, including boredom, social isolation and helplessness.
While overseas he was awarded UHI Alumnus of the year.
Since joining the Pitlochry care home, Andrew has made it a priority to get to know the residents and staff, while familiarising himself with the local area.
Andrew says: “Being here at Pitlochry has been amazing so far, the residents have welcomed me into their home. Their families have been sharing their stories and it’s easy to quickly see all the great work that goes on here.
“Each day I see a sense of fun being shared between the team and their residents. There is a great bond of familial connection between everyone connected with the home.
“You can tell our Pitlochry home was built to provide residents with a spacious, relaxing environment, where they can feel safe and, most importantly, at home. It also has a specialist 11-bed Dementia facility, which is close to my heart.
“Long-term, I share the team’s goals of improving our community connections and capitalising on our residents’ sense of self and of purpose for the best outcomes for all.”
