From care plans to activities to menus, our culture supports and appreciates the individual needs of every single resident. And why not? This is their home.

The story behind Balhousie Care Group

Balhousie Care Group was formed 30 years ago to fill a gap in quality residential care in central and North East Scotland. Today, with 24 homes, providing care to almost 900 residents and employing over 1400 team members, it is one of the leading providers of care for older persons in Scotland, as well as specialist dementia and Huntington’s care, care for young adults with a diagnosed learning disability and a Youth Physical Disability service.

Owned by AcalisCare, Balhousie Care prides itself on its person-centred approach to care and inclusivity: putting people right at the heart of everything they do.

Our person-centred approach to care, our innovative practices and our close community links have won us a swathe of awards, and made us a trusted name in care.

Balhousie Care Group is the recipient of numerous awards. Most recently, these include three Scottish Care Awards; three 2022 Courier Business Awards including Business of the Year, a 2022 Great British Care Award, a 2022 s1Jobs Shine Award and in 2023, they were finalists in four categories of the UK-wide Housing with Care Awards, winning the award for Supported Housing Innovation and highly commended in the Tenant Co-production award category.

#BustingTheMyths around care homes

We believe that every stage of life should be embraced and enjoyed, and our activities and field trips are not always run-of-the-mill. You’ll find our residents having sailing lessons, campfires in the woods and trips to the seaside.

Community is key

Community and community links are crucial for us at Balhousie Care Group. Many of our residents have lived where our homes are located, so maintaining those links ensures a rich living experience.

We have visits from, schoolchildren, nurseries, churches and entertainers, and are pioneers of inter-generational activity. We also support the community, with field trips and charity fundraisers.

The Balhousie Participation Charter

We were the first care home group in the country to launch a Participation Charter for residents, giving them a voice on everything from menu choices to recruitment of staff. We’re proud of our residents’ rights – and so are they!

“My nana is always talking about how good the staff are to her. She enjoys the company and says she doesn’t worry about anything.”

From city centres to rural idylls, our care homes enjoy some of the best locations in Scotland.

Balhousie Care Group may be built on the same values and philosophy, but each of our care homes is different – with its own unique setting, history, personality and care facilities. Find out for yourself by scrolling through our homes.
