Celebrating a birthday is always special – and Balhousie Alastrean resident Isobel Whitehead marked a milestone in style this week.

Staff and residents at the Aberdeenshire home came together for a celebration as Isobel turned 102.

Her sons, Alastair and Fraser, travelled from England to be with her on her special day, and organised a party in the lounge.

Isobel enjoyed lots of food – and even a couple of glasses of champagne!

Victoria Smith, Activities Coordinator at Balhousie Alastrean, said: “It was wonderful to be able to help Isobel celebrate her special day with her family and all her friends at Alastrean. She hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

“The fact her sons were able to make the trip from England to be with her made it an extra special occasion. She received lots of cards and has enjoyed reading them all.

“Our residents mean the world to us, and we are so glad to have been able to play a part in helping Isobel mark her birthday in style.”

Born in 1921, for most of her life Isobel lived in Rosemount in Aberdeen, where she met her husband Alastair at a dance.

He was in the RAF, so the couple spent lots of time at Alastrean, which at the time was a leave centre for serving crew and officers.

Isobel worked at several stores in Aberdeen, before retiring and moving to Alastrean permanently.

Happy birthday, Isobel!
