Balhousie Dalnaglar care home’s ‘competitive spirit’ delights King!
A Perthshire care home received a very special letter in the post this week. Balhousie Dalnaglar care home, in Crieff, opened a letter from Buckingham Palace, sent on behalf of the King himself.
After fully embracing the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla last year, the care home decided to write to the new Monarch to tell him all about it.
They were delighted, on a drizzly Monday morning, to receive a response thanking them for their letter and pictures.
As part of Dalnaglar’s Coronation festivities, the residents participated in ‘Go for Gold’, a competition where care homes across Perth & Kinross participated in a series of sporting activities.
As the theme was the King’s Coronation, the residents followed the theme to a tee. Their team name was ‘Royal Flush’ and they dressed in homemade t-shirts representing the King of each suit in a deck of cards. They even created the most wonderful crown using fresh flowers.
The letter, from the Head of Royal Correspondence, noted that the King was “delighted to learn of the competitive spirit thriving in the Dalnaglar Nursing Home and was impressed by the innovative creations produced by your team.”
Everyone at Dalnaglar is thrilled to have heard back from the King after sending the letter, along with some photos, of the various activities to celebrate his Coronation. Julie Davies, Activities Coordinator at Balhousie Dalnaglar, was the creative, driving force behind the festivities. She said:
“Our residents had the most wonderful time celebrating King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Coronation. Our participation in ‘Go for Gold’ saw us win second prize for our crown and we came second in the games competition as well. But, receiving a lovely letter from Buckingham Palace feels like the best prize of all.”
