Residents at Balhousie Dalnaglar are enjoying hours of fun thanks to a fidget board created by staff member Julie Davies.
Within the Dalvrec unit at the Crieff home, there’s an area that residents like to walk up and down, so Activities Coordinator Julie decided to build a bespoke fidget board. It enables residents to maintain their fine motor skills and stimulate their senses.
With working locks, handles, dials, magnets with washers in between, mirrors, fidget spinners and working calculators added to it, the wipeable board has been keeping residents stimulated and thoroughly entertained.
Julie was delighted to receive lots of help to build the board, with assistance coming from the local community as well as her Balhousie colleagues.
“I did lots of research before sourcing the items we could use,” said Julie. “I found quite a few items at a charity in Crieff called Remake Scotland and a local firm kindly donated the washers. Graham, our handyman, helped me as well.”
Residents have already been playing with the fidget board, looking at themselves in the mirrors and recalling memories brought back by the items on the board.
A brilliant idea from our Everyday Hero Julie and thank you to everyone who helped create the fidget board.
