Balhousie Activities Coordinator Melissa Hatt leads decorating ahead of the coronation

Coronation fever has gripped Balhousie – and we’re even on the telly!

The cameras were rolling at Rumbling Bridge as Balhousie welcomed STV News to film some special coronation-themed activities as part of a package shown in the build-up to the big event.

On Thursday night, 93-year-old Alf Colville shared his memories of the Queen’s coronation back in 1953.

Tonight (Friday), the home will feature again, focusing on the activities taking place ahead of the momentous event.

Melissa Hatt, Activities Coordinator, arranged for the residents to make some of their own decorations for the big day, while everyone donned crowns to celebrate King Charles’ ascent to the throne.

Melissa said: “We were so pleased to have STV along to visit us and see the fun the residents had getting the home ready for the King’s coronation.

“It is great for the residents to be able to take part in the celebrations. It keeps them active, both physically and mentally, and evokes happy memories which help them reminisce. Having the TV crew here added an extra layer of excitement for them.

“Everyone had a fantastic time making decorations, which will make the home look beautiful, and we all laughed at Alf’s stories of his adventures at the Queen’s coronation.”

On coronation day itself, the home will host a garden party, complete with food, drink and live entertainment.

Celebrations are not only taking place at Rumbling Bridge, either. Across all Balhousie homes, parties and activities have been going on to mark the special day.

You can watch Alf’s appearance now on the STV Player.
