In the spirit of The Proclaimers, residents at Balhousie Huntly care home in Aberdeenshire have walked – well, maybe not 500 miles – but 65 miles to raise funds for their activities fund.
Starting in July, care staff organised a sponsored walk to raise money for the residents fund, with each resident taking on one mile – some taking on a few more – whether it was walking or in their wheelchair, with the help of Kelci and Liz and care staff. 65 residents = 65 miles!
They enjoyed the beautiful flowers along their journey, soaked up the lavender perfume, and picked up the odd ice cream on the way!
Activities Coordinator, Vicky Wink explained: “We are enjoying being out on trips again and getting lots of activities going within the home. We decided to raise some money for our residents’ fund and, as we all like to keep active and healthy, what better way than do so with walks around Huntly. We have 65 residents, so each resident covered 1 mile which added up to 65 miles in total and wih the extended summer sun this year, the residents enjoyed getting out in the warm weather and seeing some of Huntly. It’s been a fantastic way of keeping our residents active, getting out in the fresh air, and raising money too.”
Sponsorship of the determined walkers raised a brilliant sum of £380 for their fund, for trips and activities, and the residents are now deciding what they would like to spend the money on.
Brilliant achievement – well done!
