A picture of the Wish Tree at Balhousie St Ronan's

Everyday Heroes at Balhousie St Ronan’s are making residents’ wishes a reality.

Paula Balfour and Alana Isles, Activities Coordinators at the Dundee home, came up with the idea of a Wish Tree, where the residents could hang notes with their wishes written on them.

So far, they have had lots of different wishes – from meals out and takeaways to day trips and games. Some of the wishes have already come true, while plans are in place to make the others happen.

“Me and Alana were having a blether with the residents and we were talking about what was for tea,” Paula explained.

“One of the residents said she fancied Arbroath fish and chips, and that led to the idea of the wish tree. We thought it would be great to make each resident’s wish come true.

“Some wished to go out for the day, others wanted to go to a clubby, and some wanted to visit the snooker hall. They’re all manageable wishes and it’s amazing that we are able to follow through with them.”

St Ronan’s is not the only Balhousie home to make residents’ wishes come true.

Earlier this year Balhousie Brookfield ran a similar wishes idea for Valentine’s Day. Residents went for days out, enjoyed drives round Angus, ate pizza and reminisced about happy memories!
