As the east coast of Scotland felt the force of Storm Babet, our team at The Glens in Edzell were working tirelessly to keep their residents safe.

Staff went above and beyond with some staying at the home overnight when the storm was at its worst as a precaution in case the home was to lose power or the local flood defences failed.

“We tried to keep everything as normal as possible for the residents,” says Interim Home Manager, Emma Shand. “We prepared to evacuate if needed, but I’m so glad it never came to that. All of our team worked so hard to make sure our residents were safe and comfortable, and I regularly updated their families through our Facebook page.”

Fortunately, The Glens was not directly affected by the flooding, but, sadly, two staff members had to be evacuated from their homes due to the flooding.

As the area slowly begins to recover,  Emma has organised for a Bake Sale and Coffee Morning to raise money for the Brechin Flood Appeal and support the local community,. Taking place on Saturday 18th November from 9.30-11.30am at Edzell Parish Church Hall, Emma’s hoping to bring along as many residents as she can with a number of staff volunteering to help as well as family members supporting the fundraising event.

Well done to everyone at The Glens – we think you’re all amazing!
