Balhousie Wheatlands, the popular care home in Bonnybridge, has retained its top ratings from the Care Inspectorate after being praised for its “responsive and adaptive” person-centred care.
Wheatlands, part of the award-winning Balhousie Care Group, was rated ‘6’, or ‘Excellent’, for supporting residents’ wellbeing, and care and support.
“The service had an admirable commitment to fully involve people living in the home in decisions about their care and support,” said the Care Inspectorate report, which described the home as “excellent at considering peoples’ views, needs and wishes”, “responsive to peoples’ needs and wishes and at adapting to people’s changing circumstances.”
Due to popular demand and a long waiting list, Wheatlands is adding 22 bedrooms to its facility, which currently provides care for 59 people.

The news that we have earned the Care Inspectorate’s top rating of ‘6’ for care and support for three years in a row comes at the end of an exciting 12 months for us, which includes being part of an award-winning outdoors project and working towards a Natural Health Award.”
Organised by Forestry and Land Scotland in partnership with Balhousie Wheatlands, Alzheimer’s Scotland and NHS Forth Valley, the project was named Best Dementia Friendly Community Initiative for encouraging care home residents to take part in woodlands activities. The care home has been using the same woodlands initiative to work towards a Natural Health Award.
The first stage of Wheatlands’ £3.1m extension, a state-of-the-art laundry facility, is almost complete. The extension will also include 22 bedrooms, two residents’ lounges, a kitchen re-fit and new outdoor space.
Balhousie Wheatlands is the only care home in its region and in Balhousie Care Group to hold two Grade 6 ratings.
