January can be a tough month after the excitement of Christmas and with the long nights, can’t it? That’s why today’s ‘Blue Monday’, so-named as the most difficult day in the year.

Last year, it was so good to make someone’s day a little brighter with a surprise gift, so we’ve done it again. This time by giving four surprise gifts to team members, randomly selected.

Two £100 vouchers donated to us by one of our wonderful suppliers, McKenna Group, and two £30 Tesco vouchers too. After a randomised draw, one of the winners was… Kirsten Nkwocha-Dyer, currently on maternity leave from Balhousie Care central office. Here’s she is looking in the pink (not blue) wth her gorgeous little one, Amara.

Other prize winners were Housekeeper, Paula Williams from Monkbarns in Arbroath; Kitchen Assistant, Adam Stewart from Brookfield in Carnoustieand Nurse, Lynsey Smith from Clement Park in Dundee.

Congratulations, all!

To cheer up Blue Mondays, The Samaritans have a campaign to change Blue Monday to Brew Monday reminding everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people you care about..

So, take time to have a brew and a chat with someone this Monday – or any day – whether that’s colleagues, residents, our with friends, or at home with loved ones.

As the Samaritans say:

“Any day can be a Brew Monday. It doesn’t matter if it’s a Monday morning or Saturday night, or if you’re drinking green tea, black coffee or orange juice. If you’re sharing a cuppa and listening, you’re doing it right.”
