Carnoustie carer and ‘Everyday Hero’ Samantha Pirie has proved her mettle in a very different way – by walking the West Highland Way for her care home residents.

Samantha completed the route in just five days last week, bracing sun, rain and very sore feet to raise more than £500 for residents at Balhousie Brookfield care home in Carnoustie.

Says Samantha, who lives in Carnoustie: “I felt that after the extensive lockdown it would be great to fundraise for a big day out. We have an idea of a day out which would include hiring a mini bus so that the residents can have something fun and exciting to look forward to.”

Balhousie Brookfield Home Manager Laurie Easom said: “All of our care home team are Everyday Heroes – they do such a great job. But with this fundraiser Samantha really proved how determined and committed our staff can be. We call her the ‘pocket rocket’. She’s tiny but nothing phases her. We’re so grateful to her for raising this money, which is an amazing addition to our residents’ comfort fund. A massive thank you also to all who donated.”
