Stormont Lodge - ladies waving flags for jubilee

Staff and residents across Balhousie Care Group totally smashed the celebrations over the Platinum Jubilee Weekend. So much so, when we came to create a wee video of snippets, it ended up being a full-length feature. Top Gun and Tom Cruise move over!

Everyone had a great few days with garden lunches, oodles of cream teas and lots of live music too – by Moleskin Joe Band at Balhousie Coupar Angus, Chris White at Balhousie Dalnaglar in Crieff, entertainment from Mike Mooney at Balhousie Luncarty and lots more.

At Balhousie North Inch in Perth, Cycle Without Age took residents along to the Balhousie Castle Street Party, complete with 1940s singing trio.

At Balhousie The Glens they were treated to Noreen-Marie and her wonderful dancers, along with Scottish music, the Jubilee concert by Songbook Melodies which had everyone singing along, and a wee dram to toast, as well as a trip down memory lane to recall what our residents’ occupations were at the time of the coronation.

All staff across our homes – Care Workers, Nurses, Activities Coordinators, Managers, Kitchen, Domestic and Maintenance staff, have all loved being very busy creating an all-round Jubilee vibe!

From regal themed crafts and crownmaking, singing and dancing, Strawberry Delights and non-alcoholic Pimms, there’ve been lots of activities and even more cakes!

At Balhousie Ruthven Towers, Auchterarder, themed activities included tea tasting: green, ginger, camomile, Earl Grey and of course breakfast tea too, looking at colour, smell, taste and marks out of 10. And the clear winner? Earl Grey, along with the requisite scone making sessions – Great British Bake off eat your heart out!

Pssst we know why Her Majesty wasn’t at the concert and the pageant. She popped around to Auchterarder, and Balhousie Willowbank for their own special visit!

In the words of Balhousie Alastrean:

On the occasion of your Platinum Jubilee, we are delighted to celebrate with you. 70 years doing any job is a long time!! Thank you for being our Queen.

And as Activities Coordinator, Carla, from Balhosuie Luncarty said of their own party, “It was a real joy to be part of it.”
