A care worker who runs activities at a Coupar Angus care home has reached the finals of the Perthshire Chamber Business Star Awards, in the latest in a stream of nominations for Balhousie Care Group.

Patrycja Dwojak, Activities Coordinator at Balhousie Coupar Angus, has been nominated as Employee of the Year for her work providing meaningful and stimulating activities to residents.

Popular in the Perthshire home and a strong advocate for person-centred care, Patrycja is the second staff member from the home to receive an award nomination in the last week. Home Administrator Lorna Menzies is a finalist in the Scottish Care Awards in the Ancillary Worker category.

Balhousie Care Group has two finalists in the prestigious Scottish Care Awards, both of them from Perthshire. Orlando Aguilon, Deputy Home Manager at Balhousie Ruthven Towers in Auchterarder, is a finalist in the Nurse of the Year category. The leading care provider, with 26 facilities across six regions of Scotland, is also a finalist in two categories of the Courier Business Awards which take place this Saturday.

Balhousie Coupar Angus enjoyed national recognition earlier this year when it was voted as a Top 20 care home in Scotland by carehome.co.uk, a reviews-based website that scores care facilities on testimonials from relatives and residents.

Morag Shea, Home Manager at Balhousie Coupar Angus, said: “The whole home is thrilled to be recognised twice in a week for our amazing employees. Patrycja is so loved by our residents and appreciated by the care home team here, and Lorna is the backbone of the home. I honestly couldn’t do my job without them. We’re rooting for both of them.”

Both the Business Star Awards and Scottish Care Awards takes place next month.

About Balhousie Care Group

Balhousie Care Group was formed 30 years ago to fill a gap in quality residential care in North East Scotland. Today, with 26 homes in the area, it is one of the leading providers of care for the elderly in Scotland, providing care to almost 1000 residents.

Owned by AcalisCare, Balhousie Care prides itself on its person-centred approach to care. Putting people right at the forefront of everything they do; it’s inclusive of everyone. They capture this philosophy through the roll out of ‘Together We’re Great’, an initiative which recognises the skills, talents, attributes and support areas for each and every person involved in the organisation. Together We’re Great aims to value individuality and promote excellence across the organisation.

A Participation Charter – a first-of-its-kind in the care home sector – commits to residents getting a bigger say than ever in the care they receive, from writing care home policies to recruiting staff.

Balhousie Care Group is the recipient of numerous awards. These include three Scottish Care Awards, a 2021 Great British Care Award, a 2022 s1Jobs Shine Award, 2019 Growth Business of the Year at The Courier Business Awards and 2019 Growth Business of the Year in the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce STAR Awards.
