A Dundee care home resident is returning to the grounds of his favourite footie team, Lochee United – and rekindling some valuable memories.

Bill Caswell, 79, a resident at Balhousie Clement Park, played for Lochee in his youth and was active with its social club for many years, following every game. A Dundee native and former stonemason, he moved to the care home in 2020.

Clement Park is located in Lochee, not far from Lochee United’s Thomson Park. So when Home Manager Cheryl Roy took Bill there for a game, he was delighted. He even met up with some of his old pals.

Says Cheryl, herself a big footie fan (her husband Richard ‘Shaka’ Roy plays for Downfield F.C.): “We’ll be making it a regular thing now, taking Bill up to watch them on a Saturday at Thomson Park. He has such close ties to the place, and fond memories, that it means the world to him to be back.”

Bill “loves all sports – except cricket!” says his wife Jean, to whom he has been married for 34 years. “His face lit up when we talked about his visit to Thomson Park. I’m so grateful for Cheryl for taking him there.”

Among Bill’s other loves are bowling and singing; he is often to be seen on Balhousie’s social media singing for fellow residents and staff.
