Everyday Hero, Cat Steer, is preparing to face a huge challenge – by taking on a charity skydive in aid of an organisation which supports some of the residents in her home.

Cat, the Deputy Manager at Balhousie Rumbling Bridge, is planning to jump out of a plane to raise vital funds for the Scottish Huntington’s Association.

The charity supports individuals and families affected by Huntington’s Disease. Rumbling Bridge, near Kinross, has two specialist Huntington’s units.

“I am fundraising because since starting to work in Rumbling Bridge Nursing Home within the Huntington’s Disease unit I have learnt so much about the condition and the struggles individuals who are living with HD face as well as their family and friends around them,” Cat said.

“Prior to working at Rumbling Bridge I did not know anything about HD. My goal is to help others learn about HD and hopefully support people living with HD and their families and friends have a better quality of life.

“Fundraising will help increase the chance of us meeting their goal as SHA has helped so many people in the past, present and will continue to do so in the future.”

Huntington’s Disease is caused by a faulty gene and as it progresses, it affects motor skills, cognition, and mental health. It can also lead to early-onset dementia.

It is a hereditary condition, meaning children of those with Huntington’s have a 50% chance of developing it themselves.
