“Families are so important in the residents’ care”

For International Nurses’ Week we’re talking to our brilliant nurses about working in the private care sector.

Job Title: Interim Home Manager

Tell us about your job: “I have worked as a nurse with Balhousie for numerous years now.  Before this job I was at our Wheatlands home in Bonnybridge.  I had previously done shifts at Dalnaglar so was excited to join in March 2021.”

What did you learn during the pandemic? “As nurses we have had to step into numerous other roles. We have had to be there for the residents as their advocate, almost as if we have become their family, their GPs and other health care professionals.  We’ve also had to support their physical and mental wellbeing. It’s been tough on residents not being able to see their families – families are so important in the residents’ care.”
