man and woman standing with medals at Great North Run banner

Sunday 11 September saw the daughter and husband of Lynn Tough, stride out in determination, despite the heat of the day, in the iconic Great North Run from Newcastle city centre, 13.1 miles to South Shields.

Lynn worked at Balhousie Care Group in Arbroath, at what is now Balhousie Monkbarns for an incredible 27 years, much-loved by her colleagues in care. Lynn sadly passed away in April this year through diabetes-related illness and her family committed to run the famous half-marathon in her memory, while raising funds for Diabetes UK.

Lynn’s daughter, Amy told us, “My mum loved being a care assistant and only left due to ill health. She was one in a million so least we can do is run a half marathon to raise money for a charity that helped her so much. The tears certainly fell at the finish line knowing we done it for mum and we’ll be taking our medals up to her grave to show her.”

As a dedicated and long-serving team member, Balhousie Care Group donated to Amy, and her father, Charlie’s JustGiving page. To-date the pair have raised over £3800 – an incredible effort and lasting legacy in Lynn’s memory. Diabetes UK also published Amy’s reason for running in a Great North Run booklet.
