Cat Steer knew the moment she arrived at Balhousie Rumbling Bridge that she had found her calling.

After working a series of jobs which didn’t inspire her, she arrived at the home in 2018 – and settled in right away.

Starting as a Care Assistant, Cat soon become a Support Worker, continuing to develop her skills and progress.

She’s now Deputy Manager – and can’t imagine herself working anywhere else.

“I worked as an admin assistant, in retail and hospitality, but I didn’t feel like any of them were my calling,” Cat says.

“But I worked as a Care Assistant in a care at home service, then found myself at Rumbling Bridge. I joined in January 2018 and I’ll never forget my first week. From my first day working in care I know it was the path I wanted to take.”

Cat was previously a member of the Army cadets, and reckons the skills she learned have stood her in good stead for her career.

Her passion for learning new skills knows no bounds, either. She has recently completed SVQs in Health and Social Care, as well as Management, and has dedicated herself to completing training courses regularly through Balhousie.

And she has also shown her desire to go above and beyond for the residents – no better exemplified than her upcoming charity skydive for the Scottish Huntington’s Association, which supports many of the residents in the speciality Huntington’s unit at Rumbling Bridge.

It’s clear, then, that working at Rumbling Bridge lit a fire within Cat.

“My working day involves ensuring the residents have the best possible quality of life,” she says.

“The key part is supporting the residents and the other members of staff. You need great people skills, IT skills, patience, organisation – and lots more!”

Cat’s role is also incredibly rewarding – especially when she gets to spend time with the Rumbling Bridge residents.

“The thing I love most is the job satisfaction and the smiles on the residents’ faces when they have had a good day,” she adds.

“I love getting to hear all their life stories!”

So what does Cat reckon is the best bit of advice to someone thinking about joining the team at Rumbling Bridge?

“Go for it,” she says.

“You might just end up loving your job!”
