At Balhousie, our Everyday Heroes have many talents – and Mandy Grant put one of hers to good use.

Several of the residents at Balhousie Willowbank were due to have their hair done, but their regular hairdresser, who visits every week, was unable to attend.

Determined to make sure they got the new hairdos they had been so looking forward to, Mandy, the Activities Coordinator at the Carnoustie home, stepped in to save the day.

“I took it upon myself to do some of the ladies’ hair as I know they look forward to getting their hair done so much,” Mandy said.

“I can just about put rollers in and use a hot brush!

“The ladies all enjoyed themselves and were pleased to have their hair done. We also had a great wee gossip – what else are you meant to do at the hairdresser’s?

“I did seven ladies’ hair over a couple of days and they were all delighted.

“I thoroughly enjoyed doing it – it makes them feel so special and good about themselves.”

Having a regular hair care routine doesn’t just keep older adults looking their best. It also boosts their self-esteem and is proven to reduce the risk of depression.
