Staff at Balhousie Rumbling Bridge took residents for a trip to the beach.

The sun is shining – so that means a trip to the beach, right?!

At Balhousie Rumbling Bridge, the staff had exactly the same idea last week.

Amid blazing sunshine, they took the opportunity to treat some of the residents to a visit to St Andrews beach for a ride on some specially-designed buggies.

For some people who live with mobility issues, trips to the seaside can be more difficult because of a lack of access and the fact wheelchairs are not generally designed to go on sand.

However, St Andrews Environmental Network, a local charity, has several specially-designed walking frames, chairs and buggies which can be used on the beach.

Equipped with hoists and special wheels, they enable people of all abilities to enjoy the benefits.

Melissa Hatt and Carol Stillie, Activities Coordinators at Rumbling Bridge, took some of the residents for a visit.

It meant they were able to enjoy a day out – and boy, did they enjoy themselves!

Melissa said: “We were so keen for the residents to be able to have a day out at the beach, and when we found out about the beach buggies, we knew it was something we had to do.

“They had a fabulous time on the beautiful beach – they haven’t stopped talking about it since!

“It’s so important for our residents to be able to enjoy things like a day out at the seaside, and thanks to the beach buggies, they were able to do just that.

“For us to be able to take them was so rewarding and seeing the smiles on their faces made my day.”
