Update: On a fantastic night at the Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards at the Hilton, Glasgow, Balhousie Care Group staff were delighted at the recognition received for Chairman and Founder Tony Banks – Highly Commended in an incredibly tight ‘Business Leader of the Year’ Category.

Entrepreneur and businessman, Tony Banks has been shortlisted in the 2022 Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards, the largest event promoting the talents of veterans, and their business prowess.

Tony, founder of the 26-strong Balhousie Care Group and a leading investor and philanthropist, was shortlisted from more than 250 entrants to become a finalist in the Business Leader of the Year category. The awards, the world’s largest celebration of veterans in second careers, showcase the value of military-gained skills.

Tony, a former 2 Para, helicopter pilot and Falklands War veteran, began Balhousie Care Group in 1992. Starting with a converted country house in Angus and a plan to make a difference in the care sector. He has built up Balhousie Care Group to become a leading, innovative and multi-award-winning care home provider across Scotland. Balhousie now employs more than 1500 staff, caring for more than 900 residents.

Tony’s other business interests include commercial and residential property and funeral services. He recently purchased flight school Tayside Aviation in Dundee.

Of his nomination, Tony said: “I am delighted to be amongst the finalists in the 2022 Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards and particularly happy to be a part of this programme to increase the visibility of business role models for servicemen and women.

“My armed forces career was a formative time in my life and gave me the skills and drive needed to lead a company like Balhousie Care Group for the last 30 years.”

Each year thousands of servicemen and women leave the British Armed Forces, with well-honed military skills and values. The Ex-Forces in Business Awards increases the visibility of business role models for service leavers as well as servicemen and women still serving.

The winners are decided by an independent judging panel made up of 22 veterans and business leaders and the final awards ceremony will be hosted by TV presenter and Invictus Games gold medallist, JJ Chalmers at the Hilton Glasgow’s Grand Ballroom, 25 May, 2022.

Ben Rossi, founder of the Ex-Forces in Business Awards, said: “The large variety of companies and sectors represented on this impressive shortlist of finalists speaks volumes to the vast breadth of talent in the veterans talent pool. Savvy employers across all industries are getting wise to the exceptional value that veterans and the wider Armed Forces community offer and we’re very proud to lead the way in showcasing that value.”
