Balhousie Coupar Angus, part of leading care provider Balhousie Care Group, has been named one of the Top 20 care homes in Scotland after a massive thumbs-up from residents and relatives.

The accolade comes from the reviews-based website carehome.co.uk, which last week announced its annual awards.

Reviews from residents and families have consistently been five-star for the popular Perthshire home, which residents and relatives have lauded for its caring, attentive staff, food and activities.

Balhousie Coupar Angus achieved carehome.co.uk’s top rating of 10 out of 10 after a flood of positive reviews to the website.

One relative whose husband moved to the home in November 2021 wrote: “The carers and management are always so approachable and ready to answer any queries I may have. Even during lockdown times, I was able to speak to him on the phone, so no quality times were lost. I have a 40-mile round trip to visit but will never move him anywhere else.”

Another relative whose wife lives there described the 41-bedroom care home and its “positive atmosphere” as “more like a small B&B or hotel.”

One resident recently wrote: “The staff are very helpful, caring and good at listening to my stories. I enjoy being here.”

Home Manager and long-time Balhousie staffer Morag Shea joined Balhousie Coupar Angus in March 2021. A trained nurse who was formerly at Balhousie Rumbling Bridge, Morag has made her mark on the local community and strengthened the staff team.

Morag said: “It means so much for us to be ranked as one of the country’s Top 20 care homes. The team and I have worked incredibly hard and through the tough times of the COVID pandemic to make Balhousie Coupar Angus a home from home for residents. Massive thanks to them and our relatives for their kind words and consistent support.”

John Kirk, Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Balhousie Care Group, said: “Morag and her team are a shining example of what Balhousie Care Group is all about: creating a family environment for residents, relatives and staff. And the fact they have gained this success despite the challenges of the pandemic and sector-wide staffing issues is remarkable.”

Morag has been encouraging care staff to further their careers. Several of them are planning to pursue nursing degrees. Staff at the home can complete nursing through Open University whilst remaining in employment with Balhousie.

About Balhousie Care Group

Balhousie Care Group was formed 30 years ago to fill a gap in quality residential care in North East Scotland. Today, with 26 homes in the area, it is one of the leading providers of care for the elderly in Scotland, providing care to over 900 residents.

Balhousie Care prides itself on its person-centred approach to care. Putting people right at the forefront of everything they do; it’s inclusive of everyone. They capture this philosophy through the roll out of ‘Together We’re Great’, an initiative which recognises the skills, talents, attributes and support areas for each and every person involved in the organisation. Together We’re Great aims to value individuality and promote excellence across the organisation.

A Participation Charter – a first-of-its-kind in the care home sector – commits to residents getting a bigger say than ever in the care they receive, from writing care home policies to recruiting staff.

Balhousie Care Group is the recipient of numerous awards. These include three Scottish Care Awards, a 2021 Great British Care Award, a 2022 s1Jobs Shine Award, 2019 Growth Business of the Year at The Courier Business Awards and 2019 Growth Business of the Year in the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce STAR Awards.
