We take a closer look at the lives of the staff and residents who starred in our recent TV advert, continuing with Ewan Hinch – Senior Carer at Balhousie Coupar Angus.

Former chef Ewan fancied a change of scene – and when he got a job at Balhousie Coupar Angus, he knew he’d found the perfect environment.

Starting his Balhousie journey as a Chef, he soon discovered care was his calling.

Having quickly become a Senior Carer, Ewan is now working towards his Nursing qualifications.

“I quickly came to love my role as a Care Assistant, and found a passion for caring and learning,” Ewan explained.

“After just over a year I grew into a Senior Carer role, and I’m looking towards becoming a Nurse in the future.”

The keys to Ewan’s job, he believes, lie in having “patience, empathy and a sense of humour”.

Bringing with him a knack for working to high standards under pressure from his decade in the kitchen, while his friendly attitude made him an immediate hit with the residents and staff at Coupar Angus.

Those residents, Ewan says, are his favourite part of the job.

“The thing I love most about working here is the residents,” he said. “I love getting to know them and hearing their life stories.”

So what’s Ewan’s advice to someone at the start of their Balhousie journey?

“Be observant and respectful,” he says. “Learn the environment, then be practical.

“Every day is a school day, and there’s always something new to learn.”
