An important part of life in any care home is making sure it always looks its best.

As a result, Domestic staff are key – and in Moraig Christie, Balhousie The Glens has one of the best in the business.

In addition to making sure the Edzell home is always in perfect condition for the residents and staff, Moraig also has a real eye for showhoming – ensuring prospective residents and their families see the home in tip-top condition.

She initially came to The Glens after her daughter Elaine worked at the home as a Senior Carer, filling the role of Domestic Assistant and cementing herself as a highly-valued member of the team.

When it comes to her job, Moraig, who previously worked in a school kitchen, takes it seriously. And there’s more to the role than you might think.

“You need good communication skills,” she says. “And you need to follow COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) to maintain a high standard in my job.

“Most of all, you need to be a caring, compassionate person.”

Moraig’s attitude is no surprise from someone whose most valuable piece of career advice is “work hard”.

And her work in making The Glens appealing to prospective residents is reaching far beyond Edzell.

In fact, her efforts have been held up as an example to the whole group – and she has found a kindred spirit in Fiona Cargill, Home Manager.

Fiona said: “It’s so important to make the home warm and individual to each resident.

“Moraig has a brilliant eye for colour and décor. She has a real creative vision.”

With Moraig keeping things ship-shape, The Glens looks set to continue setting the gold standard for a long time yet.
