Perth care home residents are having their say on the city’s future, including transport, roads and community spaces.

The residents at Balhousie North Inch and Balhousie North Grove care homes gave their views this week as part of the Perth People Place project to improve sustainable transport and active travel in the North Muirton, Muirton and Balhousie areas of Perth.

Facilitated by Arup on behalf of Perth & Kinross Council, the session at Balhousie North Inch saw care home residents discuss issues facing their local community such as bus availability, cycle lanes, potholes and seating in nearby North Inch Park.

The residents are the first care home group in the city to be involved in the programme, which is funded by the Scottish Government through Transport Scotland and administered by Sustrans.

“Balhousie North Inch and North Grove care homes pride themselves on being not only active community members but vocal in their views,” said Deputy Home Manager Holly Downs, who attended the meeting along with the homes’ Activity Coordinators, Mima Hird and Peter Hargreaves.

The care home residents’ views will be fed back to Perth & Kinross Council and form part of future plans for the Dunkeld Road Corridor Neighbourhood, which is being developed as part of a plan to link Perth’s city centre, Bertha Park, Luncarty and the wider rural communities by active travel and sustainable transport.
