Balhousie Care Group residents have been keeping fit thanks to a group of local students.

Young people from the HND Fitness, Health and Exercise course at Perth College UHI are in the midst of a nine-week programme of activities with residents from North Inch and North Grove.

Starting with seated warm-ups, the weekly hour-long sessions – which take place every Monday morning – also involve strength and balance activities, as well as games such as boccia and golf.

Course leader Lisa Dods said: “We are delighted to be working with the residents and staff at Balhousie North Inch and North Grove.

“The students love working with the older adults. It’s great to see intergenerational relationships being built and the residents increasing their physical activity levels.

“The residents and staff are fantastic and always make us feel really welcome.”

As well as taking part in exercise, which improves residents’ mental and physical wellbeing, the sessions also afford them the opportunity to interact with younger people – something which is proven to have long-term benefits.

It improves their communication and memory, as well as boosting their confidence.
